Private Driver Tours to Cliffs of Moher

Everyone’s bucket list destination when visiting Ireland: the famous Cliffs of Moher!

We’re lucky enough to get to see the Cliffs on a very regular basis in the company of visitors from all around the world. Just last week we were joined by Tom and Barbara from South Carolina on their vacation to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.

We met with Tom and Barbara at their hotel in Galway and set off down the coast to the north coast of county Clare. On the way there, we stopped for a bite to eat in Gus O’Connor’s pub, a real traditional Irish bar established in 1832. We recommended the chowder, when you’re this close to the sea it’s fresher than any you’ve ever tasted before!

Our guests relaxed and took in the scenery on the way from Doolin to the cliffs. Located close to the Burren region, the land is wild and rugged out here with rocky outcrops and hilly land meeting the wild Atlantic coastline. When you are a guest of VIP Chauffeur, you can let us worry about navigating the narrow country roads and you can enjoy the unspoiled views!

We arrived to the cliffs and the rain had still held off, we were in luck! It was clear evening so we could enjoy perfect conditions for views over the coast. We left the umbrellas in the car and braced the wind to set off up to the cliffs.

Passing the gift shop, we took the meandering pathway up to O’Briens Tower to get the best views while the light was still on our side. From here we got views from the North Platform as it’s called, this will be the view you’re most familiar with from the photos and postcards! We stopped to let our guests read up on the folklore surrounding the O’Brien clan and how the tower came to be here, on the edge of the world, or so it feels. Situated here with the roaring Atlantic below and just waves as far as the eye can see, you feel a stronger connection to the history of the area and wonder how difficult a place it would have been to have settled ins.

It was a clear evening so we caught a glimpse of the Aran Islands just to the north west. Off we strolled down the path to venture to the South Platform. The smell of salt in the air and the sound of the waves was exhilarating. It really is somewhere everyone should visit once in their lives. At their highest point, they stand at 702 feet high, it’s no wonder they are Ireland’s second most visited attraction.

Just as we were coming down the pathway to leave, we were treated to a most colourful sunset with reds and pinks lighting up the evening sky. Our guests got some great photos to take back home to show their families and friends. We couldn’t have timed it any better.

As we departed the cliffs and set off back for Galway, we had great conversations and felt like we had known Tom and Barb all our lives! The journey flew and by the time we knew it we were outside their hotel saying our goodbyes.
